The difference between the cactus and the succulent

Laik would say he did not care. Cactus or succulent. But that's not exactly true. The term succulent may also designate a cactus, but it is not just a designation for cactus in general. Succulent is basically superior, and cacti are only one of many types of succulents. And species have sukulenty countless.

What does the term succulent mean?

For most terms, they come from Latin. The same is true for succulents. Succus means juice in Czech. These plants can handle water very carefully and can adapt to very demanding conditions in areas where large drought and heat periods alternate with periods of rainfall. Succulents can be very small but also of great growth and are an interesting diversification of every winter garden.

Simplified distribution of succulents

Succulents are divided into stalks, including cacti, spurs, stapelie), leaf (alum, algae, agave), root (Kedrostis), and then many other combinations occur in nature.

Conditions for cultivation of succulents

Like most plants, succulents also need plenty of light, but succulents are directly dependent on good light conditions. In order to benefit, it is necessary to have good ventilation space, otherwise they are prone to various diseases and pests. Succulent plants should be placed on windows, ideally south-east or east. This year-round winter garden is a paradise for sukulents. Few succulents can survive in an unheated winter garden.

Succulent claims

Succulents benefit well in permeable sandy to gravelly soil. The succulent receptacle should always have a drain hole to remove the excess grout and avoid rooting. Place drainage on the bottom of the pot or other growing container, depending on the size of the flower pot, but always more than 5 cm. Plants in the gardens of the conservatory should have drainage much higher, even 20 cm. Replace the surface of the soil with a flint coating to prevent excessive substrate drying. Apply very controversial and wind up well enough.
